Virginie Fernandez (she later took her grandmother's maiden name, Ledoyen, as her stage name) was born November 15th, 1976 in Aubervilliers, France. Virginie Ledoyen was a print model from the age of 2 and later took on the stage name "Ledoyen" after the maiden name of her paternal grandmother, who had been a stage actress. Her breakthrough came with La Fille seule (1995) for which Virginie Ledoyen was nominated for a César Award (France's version of the Oscar). Outside of France, her best-known role is alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach (2000). On 29 September 2001 Virginie Ledoyen gave birth to her first child, a girl named Lilas. Virginie Ledoyen has not strayed from her native France since and has chosen to select her roles with care, instead of pandering to the Hollywood standard. Virginie Ledoyen is set to star with Rupert Everett in the film Bon Voyage, set for release in 2003. In addition, Virginie Ledoyen is under contract with L'Oréal Paris as a spokesmodel.
